My Kind of Sports Town

Chicago is my kind of sports town. With five exciting teams, fans in the Midwest have plenty to root for.

Start with baseball with the Cubs and White Sox. Both are old teams with very loyal followings. In Chicago, the rooting lines for the two teams are split depending on location. Cub fans generally live on the North Side and tend to be more affluent, while White Sox backers are from the South Side and tend to be more blue collar.

Either way, baseball is an event, especially at Wrigley Field where fans will take off from work to take in one of the many day games.

Holidays usually don’t happen in football, because the Bears play on Sundays. In the renovated Soldier Field located downtown, the Bears attract their loyal following each and every week, no matter how the team is playing.

Unfortunately, the same doesn’t hold true for the Bulls and Blackhawks, located west of the city. If the teams are winning, sellout crowds are the norm, but during the lean years tickets are readily available.

Especially the Blackhawks, which enjoyed a revival this year. With a young team, the ‘Hawks were able to get to the Western Conference finals, ultimately losing to archrival Detroit Red Wings.

But that just seems to be a temporary setback. With superstars like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, the Blackhawks should be set for years to come.

As are the other Chicago teams, which have enjoyed a revival over the past few seasons. The Cubs have been at the top of the standings, while the Sox won the World Series a few years back. Even the Bears went back to the Super Bowl, but lost to Peyton Manning a few years ago.

All of this just solidified Chicago as my kind of sports town.
